Eva Jannotta - ‘Your Ego Loves False Metrics’ — Glambition Radio Episode 179 with Ali Brown

Join me for an upfront conversation this week on #GlambitionRadio to determine whether the metrics you are honoring in your business could actually be leading you down the WRONG path. On this solo episode, I share some stories of metrics gone right… and wrong… including examples of both the new strategy Madonna is using for her tour and the grand fiasco of WeWork’s failed IPO. (Two opposite ends of the spectrum!) I also disclose an important shift I made in the metrics I decided to STOP honoring and those I decided to START honoring, once I had my twins six years ago. And now those key metrics are changing yet again. The kids are in first grade and I have a newfound burst of energy while I am creating a brand new venture for 2020. The bottom line is, the metrics you honor have to line up with your vision, and goals. But for many of us with that ‘comparisonitis’, we model others we think have the formula for success, without taking into consideration if that aligns with what we re...

Eva Jannotta - Vicky Tsai, Founder + CEO of Tatcha — Glambition Radio Episode 178 with Ali Brown

The founder of skin care brand Tatcha (which I am currently obsessed with) reveals the behind-the-scenes story of how she built her global luxury beauty company, recently acquired for a rumored $500 million , today on GlambitionRadio.com . It started in 2009, when Vicky Tsai was desperately searching for products that didn’t aggravate her skin. She found answers in an unexpected place: a 200-year-old Japanese beauty manuscript detailing the generations-old skin care practices embraced by geisha . Amazed by her healed skin, Vicky hired scientists and researchers so more people could experience these products (I was sold the first time I tried a Tatcha mask — I share that story in the episode). Tatcha’s superfood-based skin care is so nourishing and effective, the company quickly became one of the fastest growing in the US. On #GlambitionRadio , Vicky shares the story of meeting the geisha who inspired her skin care collection, and the risks she took to start her company. We ...

Eva Jannotta - When Shonda Rhimes came to AZ…

You know who Shonda Rhimes is, right? She achieved almost everything a TV producer could hope for during her long run at ABC. She evolved into not only one of the most prolific writer-producers in the business, but also a mogul, as the founder and head of her Shondaland production company. ABC filled its entire Thursday night lineup with her shows — from ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ to ‘Scandal’ and ‘How to Get Away With Murder’. But there’s something I wanted to share with you here , because you can probably relate… She shared during an interview that during this time of ultimate success, she was also getting… restless . It was time for something new. And a 9-figure offer from Netflix including open creative reign was the perfect place to jump. Her problem, however? She was now staring at a blank screen , expected to better her best. She admitted she felt nearly out of ideas. So — here’s the part I love! — she came to… Arizona . It was HERE she chose to camp out for awhile, to get...

admin - Jennifer Vaughan Maanavi, CEO + Co-Founder of Physique 57 — Glambition Radio Episode 177 with Ali Brown

Physique 57 co-founder Jennifer Vaughan Maanavi loved taking dance-inspired barre classes in New York City. The elegant, sophisticated movement suited her in a way the gym never did. So when the studio she loved suddenly closed, she knew someone had to keep this method alive . And she thought… ‘it might as well be me’. Drawing on her MBA, Jennifer put together a business plan and recruited Tanya Becker, a star barre instructor . Within 20 minutes of their first meeting in 2006, Jennifer and Tanya realized they had the same vision: ‘to bring this method to women around the world’. Thirteen years later, Physique 57 is a global luxury fitness brand with studios spanning across 5 countries (and more to come), from the US to India and Saudi Arabia. Today on GlambitionRadio.com , Jennifer reveals how they built their renowned fitness company ( before the days of social media and the boutique fitness trend), counting women like Sarah Jessica Parker and Kelly Ripa among their cli...

admin - Denise Duffield-Thomas, Money Mindset Mentor — Glambition Radio Episode 176 with Ali Brown

You CAN build a multi-million dollar business… simply . And Denise Duffield-Thomas has done it . Her powerful, lucrative ‘ Money Bootcamp ’ program made her a millionaire by age 35… without a huge team, mind-numbing funnels, or layers of unnecessary complexity. And today, her business gives her plenty of ‘unbusy’ time with her husband and their three young children. On GlambitionRadio.com , Denise reveals how she built her seven-figure business (serving over 6,000 clients), and how she discovered her simple, six-word business model — along with some mistakes and detours she made along the way. Denise has attended several of my events over the years, and I’ve always admired that she does it her way . This is the model that women entrepreneurs are pioneering: creating businesses that let us enjoy our families while we make the world-changing impact we are here to make. In this candid episode of #GlambitionRadio, we also discuss: *The guilt she felt about earning more tha...

Eva Jannotta - ‘The Myopic Business Epidemic’ — Glambition Radio Episode 175 with Ali Brown

I’m doing a bit of a RANT along with some educated observations on this solo episode of #GlambitionRadio, and the subject is the epidemic of *myopic* business owners. ‘Myopic’ basically means being nearsighted, lacking foresight, or lacking insight. Especially within the current online madness, I still see too much ‘following the leader’ and not enough critical thinking. In many cases I’m seeing a lack of even ‘common sense’ thinking. I see entrepreneurs who consider themselves ‘innovative’ locked into only improving the models that have worked in the past. They don’t even want to test new methods. And when problems arise, they simply work the model harder. It’s akin to digging a deeper and deeper hole they can’t emerge from. (This is especially evident with those who have simply learned one model of selling something online – for example, the Facebook ads to a free call and then enrolling prospects into some type of service or program. On the show I discuss how yes, this formula w...

Ali Brown - Liliana Lovell, Founder of the Coyote Ugly Saloon + CEO of Ugly Inc. — Glambition Radio Episode 173 with Ali Brown

Coyote Ugly Saloon founder Lil Lovell was just 25 when she opened that first bar in New York City . And I remember hearing about it when I lived there in the ‘90s. It had become wildly popular overnight, known for its bartenders (and female customers!) dancing on the bar . And then one of her employees — a little-known writer named Elizabeth Gilbert (yes, truly) — wrote a fantastic piece on it when she was freelancing for ‘GQ’ magazine. Suddenly, Coyote Ugly was thrust into the national spotlight. Then Hollywood came knocking , and as you probably remember, the movie ‘ Coyote Ugly ’ came out in 2000. Today on GlambitionRadio.com , Lil reveals how she went from her tiny bar to the $37M+ franchise of today, which operates 27 locations in 7 countries , with another 20+ locations in the pipeline. On #GlambitionRadio, Lil opens up about the realities of having a movie based on her business , and her ‘ unpopular ’ opinion about the dark side of the women’s empowerment movement . (She...

Eva Jannotta - The problem with ‘news’ today…

Years ago, we got our news in limited doses – a few TV or radio programs a day; the daily paper. That was it. Today, we are accustomed to a 24-hour assault on all fronts – online and offline, and even when you try to turn it off. (Just the other day I had to endure noxious TV news airing at an airport gate. As if we aren’t already anxious enough before flying.) The danger in this perpetual and often manufactured drama and outrage designed for our entertainment and to stoke our news addiction, is that we become numb to the news that REALLY does matter. Enter my guest this week on Glambition® Radio, Jessica Yellin , founder of #NewsNotNoise . After enjoying an award-winning career of being a White House Correspondent and journalist for major media like CNN and GMA, she had enough of what news has become, and decided to create her own ‘channel’, starting with her Instagram account. Imagine news that was, well, real ‘news’? Actual information? Amazing! You’ll hear her take on it. Bu...

admin - Jessica Yellin, Former White House Correspondent + Author of ‘Savage News’ — Glambition Radio Episode 172 with Ali Brown

Back when Jessica Yellin began her career in broadcast journalism, she stated at every opportunity: ‘ My goal is to be a White House Correspondent .’ (Even when it garnered her some ‘Who do you think you are?’ looks.) And after working her way from local news to MSNBC, ABC, and then Good Morning America, she did it , becoming their official White House Correspondent in 2004. A few years later, she transitioned to CNN, and won Emmy, Gracie, and Peabody awards for journalism along the way. Today on GlambitionRadio.com , Jessica reveals how she built her powerful career by wearing her goals on her sleeve, and what inspired her to write her first novel, ‘ Savage News’ , which came out in April 2019. As described by Arianna Huffington : ‘If The Devil Wears Prada and Broadcast News had a love child, it would be this hilarious satire of the Washington circus.’ On #GlambitionRadio, Jessica shares why she chose to fictionalize her career in a novel, and the surprising reaction she’s h...

admin - Cindy Eckert, Founder of The Pink Ceiling + CEO of Sprout Pharma — Glambition Radio Episode 171 with Ali Brown

She created Addyi, the first FDA-approved drug for women with low libidos, dubbed by the media as ‘the female Viagra’, and sold the company that created it — Sprout Pharmaceuticals — for $1 BILLION . And then last year, she successfully sued to get it BACK . Why? And then what happened? I had to get Cindy Eckert (formerly Whitehead) back on the show, not only to explain what’s going on with her company, but also update us on her unabashed mission to help make more women ‘really f—ing rich’. >>> This is one of the reasons why I’m flying Cindy in to Phoenix this November as a special guest at #ICONICwithAliBrown. She’ll be leading us in a special ‘closed-door’ session on thinking bigger and doing BIG deals . More than ever, women are needed to take their missions to a grander scale. And right now we have less than 17 seats left , so have a look at ICONICwithAliBrown.com .) As a proven serial entrepreneur with multiple successful exists (and as the only woman to sell her bu...

Ali Brown - Natasha Case, CEO + Co-Founder of Coolhaus Ice Cream — Glambition Radio Episode 170 with Ali Brown

It was during a walk down the freezer aisle that Natasha Case saw it: No one had innovated in the ice cream category in decades. And none of the brands on the shelf spoke to her , as a millennial and a woman. In this candid episode at GlambitionRadio.com , Natasha opens up about the risks it took to start Coolhaus Ice Cream , and how she and her co-founder (now wife) Freya navigated the challenges of their business, marriage, and becoming parents. I am amazed by Natasha’s story, and the vision and courage it took to go from her architecture background to… ice cream! On #GlambitionRadio Natasha explains how she knew the timing was right for her passionate hobby — making ice cream and cookies for colleagues and friends — to become something bigger. Food trucks were just entering the scene in L.A. when she and Freya put it all on the line : They bought an old, beat-up postal van (for $2,500 off Craigslist) and started selling their ice cream to see if they had a viable product. And t...

Ali Brown - Rebecca Minkoff, LONDON, and becoming ICONIC

How is your summer starting so far? The twins have been out of school for several weeks now, so it seems like we’re already halfway through. Our California Disney trip was a ton of fun—here’s a quick pic of us with the Mouse during our fantastic VIP tour!—but I’m glad to be back to our own sun, fun, and pool right in our own backyard. You can catch up with some of our latest pics on my IG profile here . Now, here’s some quick updates on a few things you may be interested in… 1. My latest episode of #GlambitionRadio is LIVE featuring designer  Rebecca Minkoff , who has enjoyed a wildly successful 20+ year career. A cut-up t-shirt she designed in her apartment helped launch her first empire, and it’s still thriving. But I was even more interested in interviewing RM herself to discuss her new venture designed to  assist other female founders . It started with a simple question to a VC firm who wanted her to invest: ‘May I see a list of your female-founded companies?’ When t...
