I totally understand that people will post provocative statements on social media to get engagements or to make a case for their services. And every now and then I see something that hits me as particularly manipulative and not serving integrity. (I am such a compulsive stickler for integrity!) Yesterday I saw a statement that really rubbed me the wrong way. The poster argued that coaches (or fill in the blank for ANY service provider) only get certified to get clients, and you don’t need to get coaching certification to get clients. As a matter of fact you do NOT need to get certified to get clients. You don’t even need to be any good at what you do to get clients. A skilled liar can get all the clients in the world. I know this because I’ve hired expensive “coaches” who did not even try to deliver on their promises. They were sales people, not coaches. That nonsense hurts the whole industry.
