“It’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters.” Epictetus
Ever feel like you have a monkey on your back?I just wrapped up with one of my favorite clients of all time. In one year she married her beloved, bought the business she used to work for, and she’s on track to sell it for 30 million dollars in 5 years or less. And she’s doing it all by leading with love.
It all started with changing her relationship with money from a monster to a honey. (She worked on her own with my workbook for 2 years before hiring me.)
As we reflected on the last year, we noticed that “problems” that cropped up (and felt really upsetting in the moment) turned out to be good things.
I’ve seen this again and again over the years: that a crisis that looks like a disaster turns into the very opportunity you’ve been waiting for and asking for.
In retrospect, the worst things that happen can be the most valuable events of our lives.
For example, one of the women I’ve accepted to my Money Goddess retreat in Bali in November cured herself of Lyme disease holistically after she wasn’t experiencing any improvement through conventional medicine. She has even written a book about the connections she discovered between auto-immune disease and childhood trauma, and she shares her path of inner healing and lifestyle changes for full recovery.
Wow! Can you imagine how many people need her message? (I am so excited to meet her in 2 months!)
That’s why I find it useful to experiment with re-interpreting events:
- What if it’s not happening to you, but is happening for you?
- What do you need to learn here, to release this struggle?
- What becomes possible?
This trauma-to-treasure theme has been a favorite topic in my recent coaching calls. And when you try looking at the situation from this different perspective, you’ll often find the benefits and opportunities faster.
Imagine you’re a surfer. What do we know about surfer’s? They LOVE big waves. Learn to ride the waves.
Hang ten and prosper, spiritual surfer.
