Question: I am 57 years old and only have 3 more years until retirement. My “friend” wants me to settle down with him once I retire. We’ve been together for almost 5 years and he really wants to get married. My daughter thinks we should be in the same area together before moving in together. What do you think?
Answer: The fact your daughter is concerned may give the notion that there isn’t a clear understanding of your relationship with this individual. You call him your “friend”; yet, you have spoken of marriage. Could it be that “friend” is the term you choose to use while dating? If so, the best way to proceed is with an open conversation of expectations. Ensure you are on the same page about everything before merging your lives.
